Sapele

Sapele's Heartwood is a dark Reddish brown to golden, with color darkening l over time.  When quarter of Rift sawn a ribbon pattern can be found.  The grain is interlocking and sometimes wavy. it is uniform in texture and has good natural luster.  Because of its tropical growth it is considered moderately to very durable regarding decay, and insect resistance

Workability

Sapele can give some trouble when machining, as the interlocking grain can cause tear outs. Having a slight blunting effect on cutters, it still turns, glues and finishes very well.  Be cautioned to not put it directly on iron as it can cause some discoloration 

Common Uses

Furniture making, Cabinetry, Musical instruments, and turning are some of the most common places this wood is used
