Nogal

Description:

Nogal A.K.A Peruvian Walnut Comes from Southern Mexico and Central America. Having a deep chocolate brown color with some purple hues. The heartwood tends to be darker than walnuts from more temperate climates. The grain is usually straight, curl is much less common in this species of walnut.  Rated to be moderately durable to decay , however it is still vulnerable to insect attack. 

Workability: 

Generally easy to work with provided it is straight grained. Can tear out during planning when irregular grains are present. Easy to work with hand or machines. 

Common Uses: 

Generally used in Furniture making, musical instruments and interior trim. Can also be used in cabinetry and veneers.
